I have just sent in my pig tag and the signed paper work required by Tejon Ranch. We will go to the Old Headquarters on the afternoon of Jan 20. Sandy (at Tejon) has been very helpful and professional at helping us book this hunt. My son Tod, his best friend Fred and I are looking forward to the hunt. My rifle choice was between the 45/70 or 338. I want to be able to reach out and touch one at a distance, if Mr. Big Pig presents himself. So the old (rusted) stainless 338 will take the trip south with me.

I will pack the camera and probably write up a short post like I did on my last Piggy excursion with Tom and John out of Williams in No Ca.

Ca Hog hunt feb 2001

I would have liked to go on the Jan JHP POR but my travel plans didn't work out that way. I do plan on making it one of these days and sharing the campfire with some of you JHP Piggers.

Thanks for all the help and info on planning my hunt.

Is there a Taxidermist in the Santa Clarita area that will send in pig skulls to the bug farm?

Good luck Johnnie on your hog hunt. The 338 should work well cross canyon. Just hope the pig doesn't roll to the bottom of them god foresaken hills.

For a taxidermist, here is a list of some local taxidermists. You might call the ones in the local area to see if they'll do the shipping.

The ones closest to Tejon are

African American Taxidermy .... 711 S. Victory Blvd., Burbank, Ca. Ph# (818) 846-2000. Game heads, birds, fish, tanning, fur rugs, cleaning, and repair.

Art Kraft Taxidermy .... 10851 Vanowen, North Hills, Ca. Ph# (818) 505-8425.

Simon's Taxidermy .... Birds, mammals, fish, skin and reproduction. Los Angeles Ca. Ph# (323) 266-4020. Since 1980. African, North American, and fish.

Trophy Room Taxidermy .... 11801 Cardinal Circle, Garden Grove, Ca. Ph# (714) 534-6370. Since 1955. Game heads, birds and African.

True Life Taxidermy .... Simi Valley, Ca. Ph# 805 583-5441.

Thanks Jesse .......

Fred is going to give the Simi Valley Taxidermist a call.

The 338 will get the job done; if I can shoot cross canyon. My average distance for animals has been about 60yrds for many years now.

I am looking foward to the hunt. I'll be bringing my rainger.

Don't those pigs always die on the backside of the mountain or the bottom of the next canyon? These Alaska Blacktail and Goats always do. But don't you hire those guides to figure out how to get it out of there?

Johnnie
