There is a reserve right by my house that I found with quail I would like to hunt once the season opens up. Only issue is that to access it, you have to go through a state park. I know you are not allowed to bring in a firearm through a state park but was wondering what is the legality of bringing a disassembled shotgun through? I have a benelli vinci where the barrel, stock, and trigger group break apart and can be carried in a backpack. Would this be legal?

That could be a slippery slope. In the eyes of the BATFE, the receiver is the firearm; assembled or not. I agree with John; better to get this straight from the warden.

There was a U.S. Supreme Court ruling several years back basically stating that you have a legal right to carry a gun in our national and state parks. However, you do not have the right to discharge it. But, as an added layer of protection, you may want it dissembled, eg. the barrel removed, the bold removed...

It would be best to talk to the state park supervisor/manager directly. Game wardens can advise you on F&W issues but the supervisor/manager can advise you on the park polices. What ever you do, get it in writting to avoid any complications with field-level personnel.

I have the same exact situation near where live. I contacted the game warden for that area and he strongly advised against taking a firearm through the state park. He recommended entering in from another way which can be done, but is a far hike, so I looked elsewhere.
It's one of those gray areas where even if it is legal as mentioned above, if an officer doesn't know that law and confiscates your weapon, what are you going to go through to get it back.

The depressing part of the area I'm talking about is law enforcement are also aware of the spot and they look at it as a honey hole, at least for deer since they can drive through the state park with weapons and wouldn't be questioned.

Good luck

You’ve also got to worry about transporting game.
