We had a great time this weekend- we missed Muskeg (sorry you couldn't make it- we were looking forward to meeting you and your son) however, here's the report from this weekend's hunt. The hogs are really rolling in now- we have green grass and our acorn crop is still delivering!
Friday eve... get the guns sighted in ( one gun was about 6 inches high and 4 inches to the left) so we got that one sighted in nicely at 100 yards. My second hunter's gun was perfect already, 1 inch high at 100 yards. Just like he wanted it.
Saturday morning bright and early, off we go... we get down the road about 1 mile headed to our prime hunting area's and BAM- there it is the fog. It lays like cotton over the lake, visibility is about 20- 50 yards in the fields. We've got spotter's spotting at all the high points. Can't see zilch, but we're ready for the moment the fog lifts. About 8:00 AM, the fog lifts for a moment and bingo we've got hogs - nice set of ten 150+lb meat hogs running with a 300+ bigger boar . They are spotted coming into a high corner of one field- I know the trail very well.
Then the fog rolls back in so they disappear, but it's OK, I know right where I think they are going to water and their beds. We wait till the fog lifts- it's now 10:00 AM and all is clear. We decide to check all the fogged out fields & hog activity. We'll let the sighted pigs sleep in their beds and catch them coming out in the afternoon after they nap. We all go back in to eat lunch (and my hunter's, of course, take a siesta)
3:00 PM, back in we go. We split up, Tom takes one hunter to another area where fresh sign was spotted, Deedy & hunter goes to the field where fog pigs are sleeping. Spotter's (Karin & crew) are up high. Saturday evening offers pig chases for everyone. Spot and stalk in both fields make for fun times but alas, no pigs.
Sunday morning we decide to go to a different ranch completely- one with no morning fog to foil us. Here are the pix from the mornings hunt- two nice boars were taken- and my oldest hunter wins his 20.00 bet for biggest boar by about 30 pounds. Great hunt- super nice people, thank you so much for coming. . .
