Heading out to Bryson Resort for little pig hunting. Going to stay there for 5 days. Any suggestions on where to hunt, public land. Thanks for any replies.
if your staying at bryson you can hunt with dee owner of the bryson or fhl is down the street but you need a pass and it takes 10 days or so to get it and if there is training going on me wont be able to hunt there
ask dee she will get you set up tell her oneshothunter says hi
Yupp... FHL is about the best bet for public land hunting around there. May be something going in the National Forest too.. much tougher hunting but rewards come to those who put in the effort.
Hi everybody, how in the heck is everybody?
I've turned into a lurker cuz I've been working so much.
I miss you guys immensely though.
Ambarta and his crew knocked 'em dead here- here's a couple pictures of the inside of the meat locker... those boys can shoot!
A busy weekend... we had to quarter everything to fit in the ice chests for their trip home, but here's what was hanging by Sat. morning, we got one more after that.

I think everybody had a pretty good time- I'll let the guys tell their stories though. They were kinda tired when they left here, maybe they are still sleeping or eating lotsa piggies!

Litch,
I'm thinking about (if possible) going up around my birthday 3/29 which is also opening day of turkey.
If I can pull it together by then and it's not all booked up.
I went last year in April it rained on & off it was perfect weather.
We are back. Thanks Deedy for a wonderul weekday/weekend. We had a blast. We are already planning a trip back, probably the end of February or beginning of March. I did develop the pictures but have to input them in the computer. Will probably post the pictures tomorrow. And the story will come with the pictures. The little piggies are tough. We chased the one we got for close to 2 hours. I will post the story and pics soon.
Here is the story...
We met with the guide at the resort. Drove to San Miguel and arrived at the ranch before legal shooting time. Drove in and started glassing a hillside covered with oaks. Nothing. But saw some fresh rooting under the oak trees. The guide said that the pigs are on the hillside but we couldn't spot them. So we got in the truck and drove to the ridge left of the oaks. Soon as we got to the ridge, 6 pigs busted out and started hauling ass toward us. We jumped out of the truck ready to shoot, the guide said hold off they are too small. So we just looked as the pigs crossed the road in front of us at 15 yards. As we were driving back down, we spotted a lone hog making its way up the hill across the canyon. So we drove fast to try to cut it off. We got within 400 yards and the boar went over the ridge and down into the next canyon. We got into the car again and drove like a mad man to intercept the pig 3 ridges over. We got there and no pig. And we spotted a huge bull elk feeding 500 yards below us near some oak trees. After couple of minutes a good size boar came out near the elk and started to feed uphill. We went around the ridge to cut it off. As we were waiting for the pig a group of hogs were feeding 100 yards to the left, but the guide said the pig we were chasing was a better pig. We got distracted by the group and the lone boar made its way over the ridge and came down toward us without us knowing. We spotted the boar, but he also spotted us and he started to haul ass over the same ridge he came down from. So we hauled ass around the hill to intercept him. As soon as we crested the ridge there he was 75 yards away. he stopped and smelled us and started going down the ridge. But i guess he was tired and didnt attempt to run, he had his mouth open, gasping for air. We got out of the car and a perfect shot from .338 win. mag pierced through his aorta and shattered his both lungs and exited from the other side. The boar squiled and ran down the hill. Soon after he collided into a barbed fence, he flipped over, busted one of the wires and tumbled to a stop. We went to get him but he wasnt there. He had gotten up and ran down hill and we found him soon after expired under an oak tree. Exciting hunt but I have to figure out how to post the pics.
