Hi guys,

I'm looking at booking a hunt with this ranch and I was wondering if you anyone has had any experience with them. I've talked to Deedy and she is very nice and so far very reliable on call backs and providing information. They guarantee you that they will put you in a 120 yard shot. I believe they have 100K acres to hunt with a very high success rate. $750 for a 2 day guided hunt and $200 for a semi guided hunt.

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Yeah, your gonna get different opinions on them. I'm not sure, but I think their guided hunts are with Tom Willoughby, or use to be, but not positive. I have heard bad and good on their semi guided hunts, and those are not 100k in acres. They have small parcels, some as small as 300 - 500 acres. There's a place out by Madera that is only $450, they post here on occasion.
Good luck either way.

Just FYI Lake San Antonio is currently a mud hole due to wineries/drought. I know nothing of the ranch/outfitter your are talking about but I do know that there are one hell of a bunch of pigs up and around the lake/mud hole. FWIW

Go to the upper right hand side of your screen and click on "Advanced Search"

Enter "Bryson" for keyword, and switch the search from "by pos"t to "by thread title".

Yes, I did that and found a lot of feedback. Nothing bad aside from a complain about the cabins and one guy not finding hogs on a semi guided hunt. Deedy does seem like a great lady.

Thank you!

From what I know, the Bryson Resort flat rate of $200 per day per person (trespass fee) "semi-guided" pig hunt is the least expensive private land pig hunting in California. I have never been but I have read that it is not a sure thing (but, of course hunting rarely is a sure thing).

As for Tom Willoughby, I have heard great things about him. Here are a few quotes about him from threads here on JHO from various people/posts:

"...skinned pigs in the cooler and on the road home at 7am. Hanging at the butcher at 9:30, home by 10."

"Tom is the man up there. Skins a pig like nobody I've ever seen!"

"He and Blake had those pigs skinned before you could blink. I thought the pigs were wearing jumpsuits with a zipper. Tom took a bit longer than normal, I suspect, because he carefully kept mine for the taxidermist..."

“Tom and I load the hog into his truck and take the two back to a skinning shed were he gets it done in record time as usual, removing the B&W skin off in one piece for my friend to take to his taxidermist.”

“Finally let me give a shameless plug for hunting with Tom Willoughby. He is likely the most experienced HOG guide currently hunting in CA – this is what he does full time and has done so for decades. He charges $575/hog and that is for two days but he knows the country and the hogs like family so don’t plan on spending two whole days hunting unless you have a bunch of folks or can't shoot for sh*t. He is great with novices and women – has taken real good care of the Admiral who is endeared of him. He has no web site, you call him (831) 385-3003 and leave a message and he always gets back to you in a day or less as this is his livelihood. He is not ‘chatty’ – he is a hunting guide not a school teacher but you can learn a lot from him if you pay attention.” (from 9/28/2013)

I'm a guide myself but personally if I ever wanted to hunt other properties and learn a thing or two, I would try my luck with Tom.

How does the semi-guided or trespassing fee work? Do they at least tell you where pigs have been spotted? Or do you pay and start wondering and hoping you run into them like public land hunts?

I've heard, that they show you game cam pics and will take you to areas where recent hog sign has been seen. But that's all I have heard, I have never been my self.

Why pay her the extra 150 bucks when you can call tom yourself and book the same hunt for 625 or 575 whatever his rate is today? The info was given to the him along with tom's phone number so . If you book the semi guided well have fun walking around an empty ranchette you may see a cpl cows , a rancher drive thru your setup, and a dog or 2 barking. Thats just me as I speak from experience. Spend your hard earn money some place else.

OKay. It's official now. I booked my trip for May 26th!

Regardless of all the negative feedbacks, you still booked the trip means our feedbacks are invaluable to you so why even ask? And to think $200/day is cheap for semi-guided hunt means something is wrong with your mathematics.

i would have to say that is a very nice thing to do for a competitor/ fellow outfitter especially when people are being nasty. I dont know the guy but I do know that property's that boarder San Antonio mud whole have a whole lot of pigs. Hell stay for a night or two in the San Antonio Camp grounds or bring a horse and stay in the Equestrian area. Ride some trails, you will see pig heaven. Hundreds and hundreds of pigs in and around San Antonio Lake. The more you know the more piggy you get to eat.

Veterans info is invaluable here guys, I only give it out to the ones that deserve it, which means they have to prove themselfs here on jho they are worthy of it, sit back, watch, listen and then speak. That's why I started that post on newbies for insight....tra

I was thinking the same thing about Cottonwood , that was respectful and showed alot of class.

Last time I checked it was a state campground and no weapons are allowed within the campground.
