I understand the weather is turning cold early up there. Any thoughts from you experienced guys on how this affects the calling methods of a rookie elk hunter?
Mike, it snowed in the Eagle Caps last night. Doesn't look like a lot but it's still there this evening. The cold weather opening weekend had the bulls bugling and lots of cow talk. After it warmed up they quieted down.Hunting pressure was probably a factor also. This cold spell should spur them on.
Mike, are you hunting up that way this year? I just got off the phone with a guy in eastern Oregon, he said it's been warm and they quieted down. But it started to cool off again the last couple days and they are starting to talk again. He had a hunter blow it today on a 340 bull
no bullets in his gun! I'll be headed up that way on the 17th for 8 days of archery bull hunting.
Tusker, we're headed to North Eastern Oregon either sex archery, outside Joseph. I've never seen a live elk before, but I won't see the wife, the kids, or a phone either!
Are you gonna be out that way? Best of luck...Mike
Mike, as the crow flies, I'll be about 80 miles from you. Off highway 26 in Ironside, doing the same as you, archery elk, either sex tags but I'm hoping for a bull. Good luck to you.
just this past weekend we had 4 bulls bugling till almost noon. they are definately on fire up here now. good luck to all of you who are coming up this way. should be good hunting for you.
