Always thought this building looked unique. I worked in this building several years ago. I was driving by it tonight and decided to pull over and get a couple of pics.

if you look at the top, you will see where there was an airplane flying by as I was capturing the photo

Very well done, especially like the colors. How did you arrive at the camera settings? trial & error is all I know.

yeah, trial and error.
First attempt I put it in Shutter priority (Tv setting) at 2 seconds. It looked decent but my FOV wasnt deep enough, so I flipped it to Aperture priority (Av) @f/16. and just kept shooting, backing down the apertur a couple of notches each time. When I got home, looked at them and this one looked the best @f/4.

Very nice shot and great exposure! That plane went a long way in 5 seconds! I love night time pics w/o a flash. Here is one I took after a LONG day at the beach.

What I like to do on this is put it in Av or Ts mode, take a pic, and see what the camera thought was best. Usually from looking at the picture and getting the F stop and shutter time info, I can switch to full manual and adjust a little up and down.

yep, same here.. I'll half press in auto mode, and see what the meter gives me in regards to settings.. then I'll tweak the shutter/aperature from there usually in one of the assisted modes (Tv, Av)

Good shots guys.

I'm going on a night shoot to Balboa Park here in San Diego tonight. Lots of lit fountains and buildings. I'll post some shots in the next few days.

For most of my long exposures I shoot in Manual. Take 3 or 4 shots changing Av or Tv and see how they look. I'm really trying to watch my histograms after the shot. Also for long exposure I use the MLU and a remote release.

With the amount of DSLRs in here now and the quality of the P&S's we should have some really good monthly contests!! Or should we just call them exhibits?
