It all comes down to shot placement, I have shat alot of hogs all with a .270 and 130 grains. I only have had one go more then a few yards, and he was a big boar that I shot too far back. Since then I usually go for head/neck on big boars and vitals on sows and boars under 150.

Here is a crop of the area: a bit low and to the right of center is the first strike--it cut a 1 1/2 inch groove and the bullet ricocheted to behind the ear and bounced off that.
