I'm trying to select a bullet to load for my 308 Win rifle that I could use for elk hunting. I have several bullets in mind, but I'd like to get some input. I think 165 grains would be a good weight. Bullet construction is a big concern.

Thanks for the help.

For Elk I have seen or used Core-Lokts, X-bullets, and Partitians and the end result was the same.
I like Core-lokts myself

Ive used the SPEER 200 grain in both my 30-06 and 308 win and loaded it for several other hunters, it works just fine at those impact velocities

At .308 velocities, I would think that a 180 gr. Hornady Interlock, Speer Hotcore, Corelokt or Nosler Partition would all work fine for elk. I've never been fond, for some reason, of the 165 gr. bullets in .308 - neither light nor heavy and the advantages of neither.

I like the Noslers from what I've tried so far. 340Mag posted an article that rated the North Fork the best among hunting bullets for medium & large game.

I've been itchin' to try the NorthFork bullets out. They're a little more spendy than I'd like at almost twice the price of the Partitions. But I'm starting to hear more about them.

You can get from 150gr on up to 200 grain in .308. Your barrel would not wear as fast with these compared to conventional designs either: NorthFork bullets

The 200 grainer will expand adequetly on game out to about 300 yds @ .308 velocities. These were recovered from elk:
