Bushnell Scout battery problem

I just got word that the Bushnell Scout rangefinder units have a battery drain problem. The unit is draining the battery even when turned off. If you're experiencing short battery life (couple of weeks), with your Scout, return it to Bushnell for replacement. Bushnell customer service number is in the user manual or you get info at their support webpage at http://www.bushnell.com/contactinfo.html

The newer Scouts are reported to not have this problem.

Does anyone have any experience with the scout? I was thinking about getting one but was concerned with the magnification being to high. Wondered if there was any problem finding the target in close?
