All good points, especially when there are a few other states where you can actually hunt elk every year with left over tags. I only really care about the meat anyway, Cow tags are great for me.

quick, there are loads of strates with OTC cow tags and even more landowner tags for cows...

I hear Montana was desperate for elk hunters last year, however, when I went to price license and tags I was nearly blown out of the water!

That's the other issue. Depending on the state you're in a elk tag for at least 500 bucks. Plus gas food and everything else. No matter how you slice it hunting is expensive. Then you have guns, ammo, and all the gear. Crazy money
