Can somebody explain this whole point system to me? (MPPS) Modified Preference Point System. Do you enter hunt code in three digit slot or the earn the point code? Or do you fill out two applications and pay $14. How do you get the area you want if you only go for the point?

Yes, you have to pay the application fee even if you are only going to do it for the points....

Now they just need to open up the Tule Elk units to Nonresidents, and make it OTC.

Come to think of it, it's one of the hunting advantages a CA resident has. A CA resident doesn't have to pay well over $10,000 to get a Tule Elk if you're lucky enough to draw a tag...

CA residents are the only ones that don't have to spend mega-bucks to do the Elk Grand Slam.

Odds are pretty good on drawing a tule elk cow tag within 10 - 15 years or so. And it might take a good 20 years to draw a Spike Bull tag but heh, you can get grandslam on bull elk within 20 years I'd imagine.

Sorry Superduty...I was a little busy yesterday. I did not mean to give such a short answer.

Here are the Q&A's for the Points System...I think this will answer all your question and more.

I can e-mail it to you if you cannot open it here.

Thank's GW, I'm not really very familiar with what the points do for you or why your accumulating them and how many do you need. But the form described how to get them and how you lose them. That's a good start. Now just got to figure out what to do with them once I get them.

Considering that you can only earn one point per year per species, we've all got plenty of time to think on that!

You never think of CA as an elk state, but a very lucky sucker could get three of the remaining 4 subspecies of North American elk here, Tule, Rocky, Roosevelt. One trip to Canada for the Manitoban for all four. I think it is the only state with three.
