Does anyone have advice on Cabela's Euro's? They are more than I really want to spend ($800) but is the extra money worth it versus the Monarch X ($600) or the trusty old Monarchs ($330)? Any other choices I'm missing or deals going on? Thanks.

Definetely save for the Leica's or the Swaro's, hands down. I never regretted putting my money in my Swaro's 10 x 42's. This last trip out, I took my wife with and gave her my old trusty Pentax 7x50's. Those bino's had been my staple for 30 yrs. She couldn't see some of the things I was, so we swapped. The old Pentax has great glass, but compared to the Swaro's , it was like looking thru a kids telescope.

Bite the bullet, and save some more. If I broke or lost my Swaro's, I'd save for another year to replace them.

I don't think I would trust myself with anything that small that costs $1750. I would be nervous about them all the time. Maybe I should mention that the reason I am in the market in the first place is that can't find my set of Monarchs I bought 2 years ago.

The cabelas euros are made by the meopta company. Meopta seemed to leave something out of the ones they made for cabelas. If you were looking to buy the euros might as well buy the meopta meostar Meostar B1 10x42 | Meopta. I have tested these out personally and they are great optics for the money. They have a full lifetime transferable warranty.

I've been going through the binoc search recently as well and have been going back and forth between "spend a ton on the best" vs. "buy what makes sense". I think the most important and often forgotten thing to think about is how you will actually use the binocs. Are you really up on that ridge before dawn ready to start glassing? Do you really keep glassing until after dark? If you are on the move a lot do you really want to lug a heavy pair of binocs around all day (along with a pack and rifle)? Or do you hunt from your rear and glass with a bi-pod so weight doesn't really matter?

I finally remembered that I'm getting more lazy every year so I'm not going to be up glassing so early that I'll need to spend extra for an extra 20 minutes, and I'm starting to resent extra weight around my neck particularly when I'm hiking at altitudes I'm not accustomed to. So instead of buying the Euros (or saving for Swaros), I went with the light, compact Monarch ATBs that have a great warranty and are good enough for my purposes (and left me with more money to spend on more stuff! ;-)

It's not just about the size, but eh, I'd feel kind of itchy with it too.

I also was pondering which binocs to buy. I saw the Monarch X and Leupolds at the Safari Club convention, and both were very nice. After more research I was really impressed with the Monarch X and figured I'd get a set eventually.

Then I went pig hunting and looked through my guides Swarovskis. Crap. Now I'm definitely going to sell a kidney to get a pair.
However, until then, I grabbed a plain old pair of Monarch ATB's on eBay for $200. They will suffice until I can get to Singapore and sell the kidney... ;-)

Just curious why no one mentions the Leupold Gold Rings. When I compared them to the Swaros, they were right there with them. And much cheaper. But, I haven't looked through them in low light, or in a hunting situation.

My buddy has the Euro 10x40 or 42. They are awesome.

I think it comes down to this. Do you hunt for ten days or thirty days during the season. If it's only ten, buy the Euros. If you spend 20+ days glassing for critters, buy the Swaros. Look to the experts - 95% of the guides that guide in the west lope, deer, elk, and sheep, will be wearing 10x40 Swaro or Leica on a bino system harness, (with a tripod and a 15x bino or a spotter in the pack.)

Well as I posted on another thread I bought the Monarch X's.

My buddy from Texas came out this past week and I took him around the hills showing him the area. He noticed my new pair of binos and later mentioned all my crap I left at his house last fall. I replied I always leave my .270 and ammo there and he said what about all your camo and those Monarch binos. Well I guess I now have two pair of Binos, nothing wrog with that I guess.
