Decided to get out and do some pig hunting today and the dart I threw landed on Cache Creek and Indian Valley Reservoir. Got a late start and arrived after sunup at the CC wildlife management area. Followed the creek back in about a mile with nary a sign of pigs. Followed the creek out and walked across the open field opposite the parking lot to the private property fence and spotted 10 elk on the hill across the creek. Also found evidence of pigs but no "fresh" stuff.
After lunch at Andy's BBQ in Clear Lake Oaks, good stuff by the way, Did a drive through on Indian Valley. The fire took out A LOT of the chaperal and you can see bare ground for miles. The reservoir is nearly empty and is nasty dirty due to bare ground runoff. In fact all the water holes are nasty looking. Saw 5 small smooth skull deer so I was encouraged that the burn and fresh vegitation may boost the health of the CC area deer.
Left there and went to the next trail head to the East and walked in a couple miles before meeting a guy on a horse that runs cattle on the BLM land. He said that he had seen fresh sign 4 days ago a couple of ridges over but had not seen the pigs. Did the right thing and went to check it out but never did find the area he was talking about.
So to recap, I still have a pig tag, saw 5 deer, and about 30 elk total counting the ones I saw on the way home. I probably have crossed Cache Creek off my list for good this time.

cammy,

I don't know how to post a "Thank You" for a post, so I will put this message up. I just spend hours and hours making a Google Earth map of that area. Looks like I will cross it off my list also.

Hey Map, first thanks for the thank-you. Second don't write off Cache Creek based on my one report from one day of hunting. Yesterday was my first trip up there in about 7 years so in no way am I an expert on the area. I have seen the work you are doing with your maps and am impressed with the detail.
As I'm sure you are aware there MILES of terain available in that area. My short little jaunt barely covered any of the 1000's of acres available for hunting. I am sure there are more JHO members that know CC far better than I and can jump in with success stories that will keep you on task with your maps.
I guess what I'm trying to tell you is don't give up! Your maps provide a valuable resource for individuals who want to explore that area.

cammy,

I'm not going to give up on mapping, just stay below Hwy 20 now that I learned that it's burnt off. Might as well put that on the back burner until it grows back a little. Panoche and Tumey Hills along Interstate 5 are nice and green this time of the year, so I will work on those for a while. I have that whole area from Lake Berryessa to Hwy 20 completed, plus the YoloHikers site did a fantastic job with the Trails, GPS Tracks, Pictures, and a nice write up on each page. It's ready to go. Thanks again for the up to date report.

Hello Jackosn, I started a thread up in the Blacktail Deer forum, titled "Buck Island for black tails", and it has plenty of information about the YoloHiker site, that compliments my Boundaries for Google Earth. YoloHikers has a page for each trail with maps, pictures, GPS track, and a good write up. They link to a site that will convert the trails to Google Earth. Here is the link to the thread that I started here at Jesses:

I also have Yuba County completed, but Spenceville WA closed to hunting in Feb and wont open again until August. I can't attach files to a forum message, so I need an email from you to attach the KLM files. YoloHikers is copy write, so I can't pass those trails along.
