I was able to help my hunting partner on his Tule Elk hunt at Cache Creek on October 13th. I brought along the video camera and my packboard.
He scouted a few times before the hunt and the afternoon before the opener, a herd with two good bulls moved in right behind Cow Camp. On opening morning, all four tag holders showed up at the same access point behind Cow Camp. After some discussion with two out of three other tag holders, we teamed up with the Junior Hunt tag holder because his Dad wanted him to get a"wallhanger" and my buddy was more interested in the meat. Just after it was light enough to see, there was a shot from the direction we were heading. We didn't know it, but the bigger 6 point that my partner saw the night before had just fallen to the only other tag holder we did not talk to. We worked our way up the nearest ridge and I will let the video tell the rest of the story from there....
Watch it here:
He shot it around 7:30am and we had the quarters back to the truck by 10:30 am
