Greetings,

My good friend BOWUNTR said I should quit "lurking" and share my drawing news so here it is.

I drew one of the 5 Owens Valley AO tags (august). (Sorry One Track, I read your What's Worse poll and have been wearing shin guards and a vest ever since)
I'm still in "I can't believe it" mode but obviously I have to get busy.
Ed is helping with info from his hunt and scouting (he shared that many of you were very helpful when he drew).

Anyway, I would appreciate any input, "good lucks", "I hate yous", etc.
I will try to be helpful when you get drawn.

My first post. Looking forward to spending more time on the "site",,, You guys have a good thing going here.

Regards,

Dave S.

Welcome Old Tree! Congrats on the tag. I pointed out on the antlerless Tinemaha tag, oh well, maybe next year. I can't wait to hear about your hunt. You are going to like this site.

Right on Dave. Get rid of the "Old". Daves real name is Tree, I believe because he is as tall as a tree and has killed 30+ coyotes with his bow from trees! Anyways JHO is a good place Dave, these guys will help. Ed F

Hi Dave welcome aboard. You wouldnt happen to have a dad by the name of Dave S. down in Riverside, would you? My aunt Pam is married to him and I remember him telling me that he had a son that was a big bowhunter in Corona.

Hi Peez3006,
Yes, that would be us. Dad always refers to me as "Big" LOL (6'4,235, with size 14 feet,,,,really makes it hard to sneak up on anything).
To make the world even a little smaller----Monica works in the same office I do.

Nice to hear from you.

Hey oldtree,

I live in Corona and drew the 96' Bishop Bull tag. I live out in Eastvale and would be glad to offer what I know. Maybe over a beer. Let me know. Oh yeah, congrats.

Yup, small world. Congrats on the tag and good luck. Sometime when I'm in your neck of the woods I'll have too look you up.

Congrats, oldtree.
I have put in unsuccessfully for that tag and other elk tags here in CA for many years. I get drawn on average every four years out of state for bull tags.
Do a back search on this topic and you can get lots of info from posts by others hunting the Owens Valley. There are a lot of elk there but depending on which herd, they can and will move. Good luck...

Thanks easymoney. I have been doing some "searches" and there is a lot of stuff out there to read.
Like you (and probably most of the guys interested in this topic) I've religiously sent in the Elk (and Sheep) apps. every year. You get to the point that you feel like your're just going thru the motions,,,never to be drawn. I think we're fortunate that we have these "extra" tags now, AO, and a point system. There is a good chance for the majority of the "stick with it" guys to eventually get drawn.
FYI--I've been active with CBH and bowhunting since 1975.

Two Shot---that discussion over a beer makes sense, especially since we're nearly neighbors. I'll be up there with a buddy this weekend checking things out again. I'll contact you (email) probably next week.

Hey oldtree, Corona Sr. High Panther Alumnus here. It's been 20 years since I live in Corona but congrats on a great tag. That area is my favorite of CA. So much to do even without an elk tag in your pocket. Is the KFC still there on 6th street? I used to work there.

Hi NoCal,

You're right, the "valley" has a lot of fun things to do. Just wish I could spend more of my time there.

Yes,,,,KFC is still there. If you haven't seen Corona in 20 years you would be shocked. Especially the south end as in can you say "no" orange groves (just a few token trees left compared to the old days).
Corona High Class of 1969.

Heck, we used to have orange groves right behind my house. I lived down the street from Raney Jr. High. Spent alot of time exploring through the orange trees looking for lizards and such. I was class of '81.

Dave:

Congrats from the bottom of my heart. Really. Very happy for you. My day will come. Hey, I was thinking about doing some hang gliding in the Corona area. Would you like to join me?

If you're in with Ed, I think you're covered.

Best,

Brent
