Anyone fish the aqueduct near apple valley?  Where do you go?   What bait?   What fish do you catch?

Thanks

I thought you couldn't fish the aqueduct. No swimming no loitering. no nada senior vamanos or something to that effect. I have seen people catfishing in the canal down by the north end of the salton sea .

Socal hunter, You can fish the aqueduct, you just need to find the area that have openings in the fences. There are some off the 138Hwy.  Try around the 245st. areas. Use frozen anchovies for Stripers. I use around 5 to 8oz. with 20lb. green mono, due to the strong curents.Good Luck

Andrew, I use to fish there back when I lived in sac.  I had a buddy who had a copyed key to the gate.  He would drive in there but always parked as out of sight from the road as possable.    We use to catch bass and bluegill but mostly were after the bass.  We use black rubber worms with a red tail just cast acrossed and drag along the bottom.  After a couple seasons of fishing there, one day a guy pulls up in truck, with some decal on the side can't remember but I think it was water resorce or BOR.  Anyway he wasn't to happy said he call the cops and have the truck impounded if he ever saw us in there again.  That was it for me, I never went back.  Was a good fishin hole though, we took soom nice bass out of there.

I would most likely park at the Carls Jr next to it. I have heard there are some mighty big bass in there but what cover do they use? I think I will give it a go, maybe at night..........oh yeah, middle of summer, night fishing for bass. It will be so dark(hopefully) they wont see me.

Hey Andrew; If you are going to fish the canal anyway, try parking near Mather lake then walk down to the water, wont be as busy, there are plenty of fish and there always is a large weedbed in the center that runs way down the canal. Look for grates such as by Dillard and orange rd, you should notice large concentrations of baitfish I have seen many bass in the 5lbs+ range surrounding them. The fish are super spooky they will not hit 99% if they notice your presence, so light line and a quiet presentation will help. I am pretty sure The record redear sunfish was caught at the end of the canal at Sunrise and jackson hwy. Also I know of quite a few large catsish bieng caught in these canals.

I sometimes fish the canal in Hesperia on Rancharo Rd. There is an opening in the gate for walk in fishing. Totally legal. I have caught some big cats on anchovies.  thats about it.  It does help if the state is not taking water at the time. No current.
