Anyone ever attempted calling in wild pigs? I've heard mention of it in the past but don't know of any real experiences. After recently hunting javelina and watching the boars get territorial and come charging in to the predator call, it makes me wonder if our feral/Russian pigs would respond in a similar manner. Or is there some sort of grunt or feeding noise call that they might react to? I've killed a pile of wild pigs and hunted them for years and to tell you the truth, I can't really see it working but I've also never tried. Any thoughts?

I've grunted at hogs, and thought I had one old boar coming toward me, but he could have just been coming that way anyways. I've also heard that you can use soft grunts kinda like elk hunters do the cow calls... kinda settles them down if they hear you coming. But again, I haven't heard any reports that make me want to go out and spend money on a hog call.

I've used a grunt call when still hunting. More to have them think I am a pig comming then anything else. I have had pigs come to me when using a wounded rabbit call for yotes. But again like Speck says, they may have been coming anyway.

I have a grunt call that I use to stop or calm them down. Seems to work fairly well when I make too much noise trying to sneak up on them. Also use it a lot when I want to shoot at a moving pig. A grunt usually will stop them long enough to shoot my arrow.

I've never felt the need..
They usually come into the open and they get a hole blowed in 'em for their effort.
The one time I shot one out of it's bed, I was more concerned about getting into position as quickly and quietly as possible before the wind shifted. If I took time to also call them, They prolly would have winded me and scrammed.

I've heard of guys doing it but never had the need. Would be interesting though......

I bought a grunt call for $10 a few weeks back and plan to use it tomorrow in lake Sonoma. More like others have said, giving quiet grunts while still hunting to hopefully fool the pigs into thinking it's a pig coming and not a human with the intension of shoving a sharp object through his heart

I used one on my hunt at Choppers last Oct. Was seeing so many hogs I didn't try to call one in but I did get a couple of spooked hogs to stop and even grunt back at me. I was told once that the young ones will respond well to the call.

As with most prey animals I pursue, I remain as quiet as possible. I do not wish to let any of them know I'm around...
With predators I do call as if I'm prey... I have never been successful in calling"in" wild pigs with a pig call. If I make a miss step or snap a twig, i do use calls to cover my sounds...

I hunt central texas a lot for predators at night. About a month ago, a friend and I were hunting and I had a cottontail distress goin trying to see if we could get a bobcat to come in. I was realy suprised to see a group of small hogs come right in to the call. Their eyes dont reflect much light so we didnt even notice them until they were within 50 yards of the truck. I dont know if they were looking for an easy meal or just curious. This may be a little off topic but we once traped a small sow and waited for her to go in heat and then put her back in the trap about 75 yards from a blind at night. Not more than half an hour later we had a 150 pound boar come in to check her out. I guess what i'm getting at is instead of calling you might want to try some of that hog estrus stuff if your going to be still hunting. From my experiance and what some other hog hunter do here, it works pretty well. Hope this helps
