Ok all you JHP'ers it looks like we are going to have a hunting season at Camp Roberts, during the war. I will be having a meeting with base security on the 10th to confirm, but it does look good. Hope to see you all there for the openning weekend hunt on the 26th and 27th of April.

Good luck hunting.

I'm gonna try to make this hunt, unless I'm asked to be "on call" at work for that weekend. Wish I knew for sure.

The webpage didn't indicate whether this was archery only or not, so I'm gonna assume I can take my rifle if I can be there.

Hey Boar Tracks,

Do they make Barnes X bullets for the M1 Abrams?

I'll be headed up to Camp Roberts sometime during May. I'd love to hook up with you for a pig hunt. I don't have a shotgun that would be good for pigs, so we wouldn't be able to hunt area 7. I had good luck in November in area 4 though. I also wouldn't mind a little Jack Rabbit hunting. I'll bring the shotgun for that.

Boar tracks, do you know where I can find out more on this hunt? I've heard of it a couple of times but I've never looked into it. Is the hunting worth going to from So Cal? Thanks for any info you have.

Stryder, I have driven past Camp Roberts each time I have hunted at FHL. I live in San Diego and it is a hell of a long drive each way. 365 miles each way and the drive through LA is brutal!!!

There is lots of game at FHL and I would imagine that Camp Roberts could be really excellent.

I have never hunted at Camp Roberts but I have thought about it. The good thing about it is that the areas are not open very much so the game is not too pressured.

If you knew where to go on opening morning at Camp Roberts I would say it would be worth it. If you have never been there you could end up driving all around just to figure out how to get around, and that first hunt would be good for finding your way around. The next time you go you might know where to hunt. Also the country is very pretty and there is nothing wrong with getting out in the country. I know myself I always enjoy myself at FHL. If you are a "results" oriented hunter and want to go thinking you will get into game, you may be in for some dissapointment.

I am in the same boat as you and I have never been to Camp Roberts.

I really like FHL and for me I think I would do better to stick with one place and not go jumping all around.

Maybe Boartracks will organize a JHP hunt or maybe you might want to.

Take care
Bill

Bill,

I would recommend giving Camp Roberts a try. It is very similar to FHL except that you can hunt anywhere you want without having to go back to the window. The pigs are also in a more concentrated area, so you have a better chance of getting a pig(just my opinion). I have been to FHL and love it also. I guess it just boils down to personal preference.

Hey thats a great idea about having a JHP hunt. Ihave a meeting thurs at 1300 about the new hunt season. after that meeting I will post for a JHP hunt and set up all the hunt info and directions to camp roberts. We have a ton of hogs here so I know that a lot of you will score, I see atleast 20 hogs a day here.

Hey Boartracks that is a great idea!!! What is the possibilty of you giving us specific driving directions to areas with good concentrations of pigs and hunting tips?

You could be our guide and it would be sort of a semi guided hunt.

Instead of posting the information here for everyone to see, we could get a group together here on Jesses Site and you could assign each of us different areas to hunt. It would be informal, but it would give us a greater chance of success.

I started a thread in the JHP Events Forum...........

I know if I go I would like to know exactly how to get where I want to be when the hunt starts. I know how tough it is for me to find my way around the dark in a new area. I would be afraid that I would spend the whole weekend floundering around trying to figure out where I am and where I want to go.

Thanks
Bill
