Camp Roberts November hunts

Hey all,
I'm thinking of heading to CR probably on 11/12 & 11/13, anyone been thinking of heading over there? I have never hunted CR, and i've been out of pork for a while. Lets see if we can get something going for those days. Post up if your interested.

I was looking at that same weekend for CR in Nov. I have been looking forward to getting to CR when the weather will be cooler. We were up there Labor day weekend and were disappointed. It was open for something like 10 days in a row and only a few pigs were taken. There weren't that many deer taken either. We didn't see anything in 3 long days of hunting. I was up there memorial day weekend and took a hog and there were about 15 pigs taken that 3-day weekend. I think it will be nice though in November.

Actually, my daughters are going to a party that weekend, so I guess I will be going on the 19th.

The next weekend is open for turkey...has anyone ever seen turkey there? They have a photo at the check window of somebody with a turkey but I have never seen one there so never thought to try it.

What days are you going gunner? I'll be getting back from Coloado on the 10th. I should be rested up to make a couple days.

10-4 the 19th is on my schedule cant wiat to see everyone and get another pig or two vern

Thought i'd bump this thread back up. The dates have changed for me though, i'll be going on the 12th, with one other JHO'er (rudog) Anyone else going up on the 12th?

There are definitely turkeys there, but I haven't been there in a couple of seasons now and couldn't begin to tell you what area they were in when I saw them.

I can say that I did NOT see them down by the river...and unless you want to be in the midst of the quail hunters, fishermen, and every other hog hunter in the area, I wouldn't go down by the river either. There are animals there, but the majority of them have two legs and are carrying deadly weapons. Even though that area is shotgun, archery, and muzzleloader only, with the new high-tech slugs and blackpowder rifles, it can still get pretty dicey.

Good luck to all CR hunters. Hope your November hunts are as successful as the summer hunts seemed to be.

Speck - I'll keep my eyes open for them. It looks like I will only be able to make the 12/13 hunt, the next weekend I will be hopefully hunting pigs on Oahu! Looking forward to meeting a couple more JHOers out there - good luck!

I cant make this trip so go get them guys ill be after pheasents back at home. check out area 4 if your going along the river the hogs are going to the river about 5 pm if you know were the fire place is in area 4 by the river on the south end of the river. hunt about 2 to 3 hundred yards east of the fire place and thats were they were crossing when we were there last time good luck.

Does anyone know if there's a place to hang a hog to skin him, and keep it hanging? or do you just take it to the nearest meat locker? Providing I get lucky of course.

There is a large oak tree just after the DFG window by the first bridge. When I got my pig Memorial Day the guy at the window told me people use that one all the time so I skinned my pig there. I guess you could hang it for a while also but I don't know if I would leave it there. There are some big ants on that tree that got all over me when I was hanging the rope but they didn't get past the metal gambrel to the pig. Hopefully there will be some pigs hanging that weekend!

Thanks for the tip hunthard - I was in that spot last time (Sept) and I didn't see anything but a couple of elk, but it looked good.

You guys are killing me but I'm going to make this trip. I'll get in From Colorado the Thursday before. Plenty of time to recoup and go after the hogs. Is everyone staying at the tracks?

we will be at the tracks and mell there are a couple of trees out there that they use as well and i have seen them hang deer and pigs out there over night with no problems clint the beer will be cold we will be there at about 5 pm friday and will probally be tenting it this time will bring some chops

If I can locate a cow this week, I'll bring the meat!! I don't know what time I will leave but it will be Friday. I'll let you know when I get home from Colorado.
