Camp Roberts

I was wondering if anyone has been to Camp Robert this year and how it's been. I was thinking of heading over there maybe in December. Any success?

I hunted there this last weekend. I spent all of Saturday and most of Sunday. When I left there were about 20 quail and 0 pigs. Doves were still plentiful. I saw and shot at several there were in groups of 6-8 and many single birds.

Base is very dry and in most areas the grasses have turned to dust. If we have a big rain, erosion will be a major issue. On the other hand, the acorns have begun to drop.

I am suprised about the acorns. In the hollister area they were dropping 6 weeks ago. I think they are all dropped now.

We were there on Veteran's Day weekend. It was very dry, hardly anyone there, and very little "fresh" sign. We did see two, one while driving between hunting areas, and another on the riverbank, but couldn't catch up to them. The dryness made it hard to track them very far. Also, they shooting out on the range day and night. There was only one pig taken that weekend. Maybe with some rain, it'll be a little better going.

They had 4 ranges going this last time.

On Sat there were about 160 or so hunters. Everywhere I went or wanted to go, I had company.
