Well Camp Roberts has been real crazy for the last 3 weeks, with operation TF Raven. Its over in a couple of days and things should be getting back to norm. WE had about 6000 troops on post. We had a few fires, with 6000 acres being the biggest. But none of the fires were in the hunt areas. I still have been seeing a lot of deer and pigs on post, but late at night, so they are still around. I think the july hunt will be a good hunt so just stay with it. I will give you some more hunt info when it comes closer to the hunt date.
Hope to meet a lot of you there.

Lowell,

It can't be said enough... thanks for all your legwork (even if it is your job)!

I'm looking forward to the July 26th hunt, and to meeting you (and a couple of other JHPers). At the least I'd like to shake your hand... better yet, I'd like to stand you to a drink.

Thanks again!

Same from me. I look forward to more info and I definitely will be there. Since I have never been there so if folks wanted to post any info on good places to head to at first light, please feel free.

Give me a week or two of scouting and I will hook all of you up. But I still will hide some of the BIG,BIG, deer spots for myself, sorry. But I did see a group of 6 legal bucks today, all forks, with one small 3x3,and a group of 12 hogs about 20 yards from the deer. So when I get a firm path of them I will let you know. To much going on base right now, to do some good scouting.

What would it take to get in on the July 26th hunt up there? Is it limited to a certain number of hunters, maybe already filled up or ????

If I can get my setup done in time, tentaive plans are that I will be there. Good luck to all on upcoming season.

Phillip,

Congrats on X-tag. I wouldn't limit myself to that 7000 acres. There are some huge bucks up in the sierra's on National forest lands. The higher you go, the bigger they will be.

I'm still in too. I still owe Lowell a cold one from last hunt. Save me a color map and I'll get it this time. I caught up with you late last time and all the color were gone. The biggest problem I found on my first trip was the maps. The maps Lowell has are really good. Well worth the $$.

Are those who are going planning on staying at the tracks or on base? If you're looking into a motel get it in San Miguel. I think it's called the Western States Inn. Right off the 101. We had a double room for 80.00 a night.

Boar Tracks,

Thank you for the maps. They will be very helpful. One question for the upcoming July Archery hunt. Do I need to have a A0 (Deer Tag) to hunt pigs on the base during this hunt? or will my pack of 5 pigs tags suffice?

Thanks for the help,

Your hog tags are all you'll need to hunt hogs at CR.

You fill out the papers when you check in. What I do is when I check in Saturday, I grab an extra set and fill them out before I get there Sunday. It makes the wait a little shorter.

It seams like it did not take long for CR to become a new hot spot for hunting, I am so glade of all the hunters getting info on this site. You guys do not know how close we came to not having hunting at CR this year. But I am happy to see all come out. I've even got some so so emails about putting the hunts on jesse's site because they wanted to try to keep our honey hole secret. But with out the number of hunters going to CR we all might have had to find a new place to hunt.

I will be scouting all this week on base so I hope I can help alot of new hunters out.

Is this hunt archery-only for all species? In other words, can I hunt pigs and rabbits with a firearm on July 26th and 27th?

Thanks.

I'd wait for a reply from Boartracks. I read the wabpage and it said archery for pigs deer rabbit. That's how I took it anyway. He's the man when it comes to CR.
