Got drawn for August 27th opening day at CR, deer and/or pigs. Post or e-mail if anyone wants to get in on my draw...one extra adult and two juniors allowed to enter on my draw!

Good luck to you, CR is a nice place to hunt. Last time I was there, the pigs were down by the river, as were almost all the hunters. The deer were high up away from everything. Get up high as early as you can and get the deer heading away from the hunters

Even mid day there were pigs being seen down by the river, it was something to do during mid day when the deer were tough to find. This was on the archery opener hunt 2 years ago.

Thanks for the advice BDB. I was reading some past posts about CR, and it seems like hunting down by the river isn't worth it. In fact, there seemed to be alot of negatives about CR...I'm almost having second thoughts about even going.

It will be crowded. They do not control the number of people in each training area like FHL does (or at least they didn't used to). They used to just controll the total number of people but they were free to go into any open area so people would get bunched up. Myself and some of the people I know that have hunted there head high and head high early. I bet the bucks will too. I saw a nice 3*3 there last time at about 70 yards (archery hunt) and he was near the top of a high ridge to the south of the river heading south west away from everyone. This was TA 3 if you look at a map. It is a very nice place and you will see much fewer people up on the high ridges and draws away from the river.

Thanks again BDB, I'll try area 3. Since they have a drawing for opening day, they must limit the number of hunters on that day, do you know what the limit is?

Joe don't be turned off to CR because of bad posts from the past. Most of it came from the SGT. who got transfered out of there and everyone who was supporting him. Stay away from the river and you won't see many hunters.

every one talks about the river on the internet thats why its always packed there. and it seems like the majoredy of the people hunt there but the other part of CR is also good hunting too. area ,2, 3 and 4 you just have to put in the time. i myself know 6 different good areas were to find game but hunting is hunting sometimes there there and some times there not.

Hey Joe... drop me an email too. I have a suggestion or two for ya, and I promise the hump out won't be anything like Tejon.

If you can shoot at deer like you shoot at hogs, you ought to be in the money for this hunt. Congrats on the draw, and let us know how it goes!

There are definitely a couple of spots I can tell you to go, and it won't cost you anything and I will tell you that it is black powder or shotgun only!!!
