Okay, I've never bought anything from ebay... so I do not see how this is possible...

http://cgi.ebay.com/Canon-EF-400mm-f-2-8L-...1QQcmdZViewItem

When I last looked the bidding was @ $610, I'm sure it will go up a lot before it's all over... I don't understand how whoever is selling this lens would put a minimum of $500-something???

edit- just checked again and now it's over $2,500

that was quick!

Wapiti, would you (or anyone else who wants to answer) trust buying a used lens from ebay or anywhere else? I've been giving some thought to buying a used tilt/shift lens and I'm a little afraid of what I might be buying.

It appears that the item is located in Brooklyn NY. If your cautious about spending that much dough online, maybe you could take a look (or make the deal) in person? (dont know if brooklyn is very close to you though).

Buyer beware......My son once bid and won a Sony HD camcorder for $1500.00 and never recieved it. Nor did he get his money back. He did everything short of sueing the person. Ebay or Paypal wasn't any help in recovering his money.

This person was scamming others selling video equipment.

Never pay with a money order, if they are legitamate they will accept Paypal. If you are ripped off, paypal will refund all of your money less $25. If you don't use paypal you're on your own!

that's what I do, I rarely bid until that last minute. I just mark the item in my watch list and keep an eye on it.

I've heard eBayers refer to that as 'sniping'. I think it's the best way myself. Gives the competition no time to re-think their max bid.
