I was wondering if any external flash could be added to the Canon Digital rebel such as a cheap Vivitar or if one would need to purchase a Canon extrnal flash?

Thanks

Simple, You can add an aftermarket flash to the Rebel. I see a lot of people getting the SunPak Flashes. There are some other brands too, but don't come to mind right now. Go over to D P Review and look around at what some people use there.

Personally I went with a Canon flash for my Reb. I have the 420 EX SpeedLite. I am very pleased with it so far. If I could make any recommendations it would be to make sure you buy a swivel light. Something that you can aim in any direction to bounce your flash if wanted.

Hope this helps.

I have the 550 EX SpeedLite. I'd stick with one of the Canon flashes.

I will purchase one of the Canon flashes eventually. I build my own digital game cameras and use the Vivitar flashes to suppliment the digital cameras flash. I have several and wanted to know if they could or would damage my Canon digital rebel? Thanks

which vivitar flash is it?

Ive seen good results from the Viv 283 + DReb.

I think as long as the flash isnt too old (some of them have too much juice <1980s), and it has a hot shoe, it should work without any problems. how well it works will have to be tested.

Lan-lord the flashes are Vivitar 2000. They are all new flashes, just recently put on clearance at Walmart.
