So for those who have read my inquiry about cantilevers as it relates to slug shooting... Still open for anyone's experience with the set up as it relates to a Mossberg 500 A; I am considering a purchase of the fully rifled barrel for my early 80's 500...anyone experienced with the path i may take? thanks in advance.

Whatever you do, do not buy ported.
I bought mine on gun broker. ebay also has them.
May i ask you, why do you need one if you have such a honey hole with general weapons. It is better than FHL, isn't it?

Why not ported? Mine is ported and it works just fine.

Sure, also loud like hell without any benefit. The shotgun barrel wall is to thin to reduce recoil., been there, done that, after i almost left my hunting partner deaf, had to sell it an buy a regular one.
No one has to suffer around you when you enjoy, right?

JustGuy (JG), hey dude everything I've read and have experienced with ported barrels, such as 7-mm mags, generally is that it reduces barrel jump and the only way to mitigate the noise is load selection. And as for my decision with slugging pigs, it is urban interface and DFG regs as it relates to hunting pigs with shotguns.

I have a Mossberg 835 with a cantilever barrel that is fully ported and after lots of searching for ammo and money spent I found I can do a 3" group with Hornady ammo @ 100yds consistently and a very close second is the Remington high velocity slug. Ive never had an issue with the cantilever mount or the ported barrel and I have not noticed it being extremely loud. I do recommend a quality optic made to handle the abuse of a shotguns recoil since it really is much higher that many rifles.

I bought a rifled barrel for my 12 gauge last year. Got a fully rifled barrel cantilever scope mount with a 2x7 scope. I like the rifled barrel part but I'm not a big fan of having the scope. If I did it all over again I would go with a fully rifled barrel and iron sights. IMO the scope is a good idea if your sitting comfortably with a good rest and plan on taking shots past 80 yards in the open at a still target, which is not how it goes for me in the field.

Rifle is a different story, there is a significant reduction in the felt recoil due to usage on installed breaker or thicker barrel wall. I have one on my 30-06 and love it. Shotgun is a different story. There are 2 factors which make porting useless in shotguns, the thickness of the barrel wall and lesser pressure.

Everything is correct besides one little detail. The excessive loudness effects not the shooter but the guy standing by, usually your hunting partner.
