One of my friends and I are planning to spend our spring break, which is the last week of March hunting wild pig. Which location do you guys recommend, Carrizo, Sweetwater, or Laguna? We would be spending a few days way back in the boonies so walking distance is of no importance but availability of water is (we'll have purifiers).

Thanx

Some guys from work and I were on the Sweetwater side of Laguna Mt. in late January. We ended up staying pretty low. We were there Thur/Fri/Sat. We were all alone Thur & Fri, but the hunting WORLD was there Sat morning. Tons of sign. They were rooting less than 100 yards behind camp both nights! My Partner got a couple shots off at a group of 4, but missed (20-30 yards, I told him not to bring a scoped gun). Turkeys there too! I haven't developed the film yet, but I got pics of extensive roto-tiller work. If you look up my posts from that time, I described the areas we found them.
We packed in our water. I've heard the ground water in that area was something to watch out for. My big suggestion is WEEKDAYS ONLY. Good Luck!

Yeah I would say Sweetwater or Laguna Mountain, they are both good.

Blastin,
I have packed into the Laguna Mountain unit and had good luck, durring the week only. The weekends are a zoo. We purrified our own water, however; some of it tastes like sulfer. We brought powdered Gatoraid to mix with it. Good luck.

When I was in college by budies and I went on Spring break looking for Pigs that were wild too.

I usually had the most luck in Daytona Beach, but I hear Lake Havasu can
be quite good too.

Be careful though, when they sense you have been drinking they will hide behind the apperance of an attractive women!

Good Luck and take pictures!

I don't know what the last guy said, but I would try Sweet, or Lagunna. I've had some luck around Sweetwater, or you might want to try Stockdale, if you have a 4x4. The road last week was nasty.

BoarTracks:

I believe PoorAim's use of the word "pig" is sexist pejorative reference to young women who aren't, to put it mildly, in the category of Bo Derek. After the consumption of multiple brews, one is said to be wearing "Beer Goggles," and, as a result, a "2 at 10 turns into a 10 at 2." In my youth, several thousand years ago, I spent an inordinate amount of time and money sweet-talking darn near anything into a tryst only to discover the next morning, sober and with jackhammers pounding against the inside of my skull, that my judgement the night before had indeed been seriously flawed. The poor ladies, usually in pretty much the same condition as I, would awake, take a look at me, realize that they, too, had been wearing Beer Goggles, and then burst into tears and contemplate suicide or life in a convent praying for forgiveness.

Now, on to the stuff that matters. You mention you've had success at Laguna. Have you seen/bagged some hogs up there and how far did you have to pack in? What time of year? A lot of guys would love to find a decent hunt on public land, even if it requires a hump to get back in.

Boartracks,
I've never heard of Stockdale? Any info would be great. Is everything still on for the hunt next month at Camp Roberts?

Thanks for all the replies guys, however the trip had to be cancelled. My huntin' buddy's in the army and can't take any vacations and can't stray far from base just in case he's called to action....now I'll have to wait til summer, if the war is over that is.
