I was picked on the October 18th - 22nd hunt this year, and have never hunted unit 52, what part of the unit should one be in this time of year? and, are the elk still in rut? elevation on this unit spans from 9000 to 9500 feet open terrain too wooded areas, any info would be greatly appreciated! Thank you..

I've heard the north end up top is good too...there's a good amount of roadless area in there. Also, just above the private above Cibola is pretty good from what I've heard too....I actually hunted 52 a couple of times and all the country up there is pretty nice country. You'll have a good time....can't go wrong. You'll see camps and there are basically elk all over the unit...from low to high.

You need to buy the Carson National Forest Map before you talk to biologists and what not...there are a ton of water sources and such that will not show up on any other maps.

I think I bought mine here--I sure like the waterproof one I bought for $13:
