Kinda a postponed posting, but. Last years opening day of deer season at Monache Meadows x10 was a bust. My son and I got there a couple of days early to scout as we usually do. Opening day we awoke at about 3 am and hiked in a little ways and set up on a couple of good areas. As the sun began to rise, I hear this mooing. It starts get louder and then I hear the whistling and yelling of the Cowboys. For the next two days the area was overtaken by a cattle roundup! Needless to say, the deer ran for thier lives. In fact I usually see alot of deer and tracks in the area, but, I didn't see any sign at all last year.

I realize the forest is a land of many uses, but, I'm thinking the cattle leasee needs to pick another time to conduct his round up. A time that doesn't interfer with public uses.

I sent the forest supervisor my thoughts. If this round up interferred with your hunt also, by all means let him know.

I was up there fishing 2 years ago and ended up in the middle of a cattle drive.I can say that being on foot with no place to go was not a very good feeling. The cattle came over a small rise at the south end of the meadow and headed right for us.They veered off in another direction about fifty yards from us.
