My brother's son-in-law has been surveying a ranch near San Ardo, to be broken up into ranchettes. He acquired permission to hunt the ranch.
An early morning dense fog prevented us from seeing any pigs that would normally travel through this area, heading back up to their bedding areas. About 9:30 the fog lifted just enough to catch a small group of pigs traveling about 400 yards from our position. When we eased over a little hill, Shelby had two quick kills on nice hogs. He shoots a 30-06 and he had never taken a big game animal before. So, he was extremely excited, but made good shots before he came unglued.
Just before we started to move the pigs down to a location where we could get the truck, we spotted four more pigs coming to our location. Since he was tagged out, I took the next pig with our last bullet.
The boar weighed 140 lbs., one sow was 125 lbs., and the last sow was 100 lbs.
All the pigs dropped on the spot and we didn't have any meat loss due to bad hits. Kind of a neat day.

Nice looking hogs and that is some pretty dandy shooting for someone who has never harvested a big game animal before. Nice work
