Wife just purchased me a 2-day pig hunt with Central Coast Outfitters (guide Alfred Luis). Have any of you hunted with this outfit before? If so likes and dislikes of your trip. $600.00 sounds alittle high from the posts I've read here. inlcludes lunch and refreshments while hunting, and cleaning and care of game.

I think they use dogs. I prefer not to but this is my first pig hunt and look forward to it. Thanks for your input.

I grew up on the Central Coast near Santa Maria. Mom, and Dad still live in the area, so the area is pretty familiar to me. The weather should be nice and cool during February. That is when I plan to hunt. After duck, goose, quail, and deer seasons are over.

Deadducks,

Rather than running down dog hunts based on my limited experience, I'll just say to be clear with the guide what YOU want to do. $600 is a lot of money for a 2-day hunt, especially since on most of those private ranches a dog hunt is only gonna last a couple of hours. If you have the option (and you should), I'd start out with spot and stalk hunts, and only go to the hounds if the other methods aren't working out. But that's me.

What I failed to do, and you can learn from my experience, was to get a good idea of how the hunt typically plays out. If I'd known more what to expect, then I could have probably set expectations with the guide a little better, and I would have had a more positive experience. As the client, you should have a lot of power. Don't be afraid to use it (within reason, of course).

Email me if you'd like more specifics about my own experience.

Wow!!! I wouldn't expect a hound hunt to last for more than a day.

And be sure to say thankyou to your wife. Any wife that books a hog hunt for them is tops in my book.

You know, HntrJohn just pointed out something that completely slipped by me.

Absolutely give you wife a HUGE hug, and some kisses, and probably a nice dinner out, too. Springing for your hog hunt is a very cool thing, and not something a lot of wives would do.
