Ok guys I need your help, I just talked to the base CO, and he wants to here from the hunters on how they liked hunting at Camp Roberts. If we get a lot of response, I think we can open up camp roberts to more hog hunts. Just post about what you think about Camp bob on this forum and I will get it to him. That way we don't have to pay the dep hunter to come in and kill the hogs that the public should have a chance to shoot.
Thanks
Lowell

I haven't yet hunted Camp Roberts, but my Navy Reserve SeaBee battalion used to do a lot of field exercises there 20 years ago.

I for one would sure appreciate more hunts.

Cheers,

Boar Tracks:

All I've heard are good things about CR. I'd like to hunt their on the July 4th weekend.

It wouldn't be getting real hot up there in July, would it?

I have never hunted Camp Bob not for lack of trying. Thier
season's use to be kinda odd. If they could (which they may have) make it a regular season I would sure hunt it.

I agree with GUNNER. I realy like hunting CR. I've been to the last two. Can't make it July 4th but I'll be there for the archery hunt. I think they should save our tax money for dep hunters and have a monthly hunt. I also would buy a yearly pass. I stayed on base in the RV park this last time. And I'll tell you what, everyone we dealt with on base were very nice. Keep up the good work Boartracks!!

Great place to hunt pigs, quail and from what I have heard, they have a good number of deer also.

Not only a great place to hunt, but a great place to take the family to for a picnic by the creek.

I have never hunted CR, only because something has always came up at the last minute, like this last hunt. The 4th of July would work out for me, and if happens, I will be there. I have heard great things about CR, mostly all on this forum. The seasons are a little far in between when you can hunt, if they were a little close together you could have more of the public hunters come out and take care of the hogs rather than spending the $ on a private hunter.

Thanks,
Mel

For those of you who have never hunted Camp Roberts, you should give it a shot. I've still not taken anything out of there but had a ball both times I've been. I've hunted FHL in the past and have heard of hogs being shot. Maybe one or two a weekend. CR does a whole lot better. Boartracks told me he let quite a few go Saturday. He even went to the point of showing me on the map where I should look. Great place and good people. We camped at the RV park on base this last time. There were only 3 of us there. One we never saw any of them. The other was a military guy. I expected it to be full. Maybe for the archery hunt we can fill it up with JHP'ers and put some faces with the names. I still owe Lowell a cold one!

CR Post Commander Sir (with sugar on it);

I haven't hunted CR yet (missed the boat last weekend, had other plans) but would definitely appreciate an opportunity to do so. I'll be glad to save the taxpayers some money....in fact, speaking for some of the taxpayers, I know we have some (myself as one) who will gladly BE the depredation hunter, AND at no charge to the base, how's that?

I would love to have an opportunity to hunt the base. I am also a Hunter Education Instructor (HEI 1723) for the Dept. of Fish and Game, so I'll shoot safely and promote the same on base.

I hunted Camp Roberts this past weekend and I have to say it was one of my favorite hunting trips. I just wish they had more pig hunting days. The staff was real friendly and very helpful with any questions that we had. I perfer to hunt CR over FHL any day. Hopeful there will be more pig hunts on Camp Roberts

Boartracks and Base CO,
I had a great time on Memorial weekend hunt, Sat. morning I got into the pigs, but couldn't get a clean shot through the trees. All of the staff were very helpful, the weather was perfect, and all hunters I spoke with were very pleased with the way the operation was run.
Count me in on any expanded hunt days at Camp Roberts. I think the success of Memorial weekends' hunt days, should show hunter willingness and ability to follow the rules, while helping eradicate those pesky porkers.

I have a special place in my heart for Camp Roberts because I shot my first and currently only wild hog and quail there. Camp Roberts is one of those rare places that is accessible to the hunting public, but is not covered with trash. It still has that clean wilderness feel to it. I feel fortunate to have the privilege to hunt there. It would be nice to be able to hunt there a little more. Spring turkey season would be nice.

I my self have not had the opportunity to hunt here. But from what information I have heard and read it is a great place. It would be great to have more chances to hunt such a fine tract of land.
