Hey folks,

So the wife said " finally no more hunting I could rest" I said " the pigs are calling my name" hope she don't stop feeding me for a few days. Off I go tomorrow morning in search of my first pig! Thanks to some good tips and advice from a very professional hunter! Would love to say his name but as respect will not do so unless he says its ok. Will leave at 1700 and hope to start right early as they make their move. I hope I could post some pix of a hog or hogs. Taking 2 tags and hope to score at least one!

Hello folks,

Sorry for the late response. Yes it was public land and was hunting with my 30-06 Remington. I took the advice from a pig master and started to hike the mountains. Saw lots of deer tracks. At about 715 or so spotted some pig tracks yes they are here I told my self. Stalked, waited, moved on and stop. I was being very careful and always looking to see if i Spotted something. There were beddings everywhere but no pigs. Was I late that they moved out quickly or was I just not being quiet enough that they heard me and took cover? I decided to stay along the borders and scout the area. Lots of tracks but no pigs as well. Hiked for about 3-4 hrs and called it a day. On my way back the wife says hurry to the right!!!! I looked and told her lets go this way. A bear w/t her 2 cubs. Hellll noooo we weren't going that direction. ( these time of the yr they are very aggressive). Once we made it out to the car she was relieved and happy. Overall experience was very exciting. I know where to hunt for deer this season for d9. Will go back next Saturday and try to arrive earlier and see if we could spot them on their move.

If you're seeing sign then don't burn your spot. Pig can have 4-6 bedding areas with good distances between them. Try going back to that area killing the wind in mind. Get up above it before first light and be in a good position to glass. Good luck though! These guys are right about expecting to harvest your first year. It took me a year of looking at scat before I put one down. That was hunting hard 2 - 3 times a month.
