Hey fellow wouldbe's,

Sounds like there's a few stick bow man going on this trip, so now is the time to represent the traditional bow-hunter.

A bow that has no let off, no sights, no trigger, just one string and your brain to get it done, a bow that requires more skill to master and puts more infuses on hunting skill and getting close, remember the bow and arrow is a short range weapon.

I expect you guys to represent, keep practicing and keep um sharp, visualize your big boar up close and in your face, see your self putting one well placed arrow right in the goody box, see the arrow bury-ed deep into his side.

Like all great athletes they see it long before it happens, they see it in there minds eye, ( if you can visualize right, you can even get a shot of adrenalin as though your actually there ).

uh - oh... looks like I'm the only one without a recurve... I can already see where this is going
<

I first learned to shoot with a recurve. I've got a #45 browning that I shoot for fun. BUT - I wont be using it to hunt big game.

I simply cannot guarantee an ethical kill shot with it, so I just won't risk it. I lack the practice neccessary to attempt a big-game kill with a traditional bow. But with my bowtech I can drill the crap out of the target every time without fail. I can't remember the last time I missed the kill zone at known ranges on my foam block. With the recurve... it's simply not down to a science for me. It's a blast, and I enjoy the feeling of successfully making a bullseye, but there is simply too much of a risk for me of wounding an animal, to rely on hunting with it.

And for that - I probably won't get a shot at a single hog while you TRA's will all fill your tags

It's about 10 years old now, 55lbs @ 28, 62" with fast flight string, I shoot a heavy carbon arrow I love, total weight 550gr. I shoot ether a Grizzly 160gr.+ insert or delta 2 blade with insert.

The Grizzly is the strongest and deepest penetrating broad head PERIOD.

I also like the black diamond delta 2 blade it's a little wider and gives a better blood trail but nothing penetrates better than the Grizzly.

If you have a hard time honing your broad heads I would go with a strong 2 blade already sharpened, you must have vary sharp broad heads especially on hogs, they just don't like to bleed.

I will always take 2 holes, in and out, the Kooks who say they want the head to stay in and cut everything up while the animals running don't know what there talking about.

The only way a broad head can cut is if it is moving forward or backward ( if you take a knife and hold the blade in both hands you can wiggle it all you want up and down, back and forth and you will never cut your self unless the blade moves forward or backward.

The tissue in the animal that is holding your broad head has a 360o hold on your broad head and I have never seen a set of lungs shredded because the animal kept the broad head in it's chest.

Now if the arrow is being hit by let's say the leg or any other force to make it move forward or backward it can cut and that is the only time I have seen any cuts more than the entrance and exit.

You got to watch out for LOCO people giving advice they have no knowledge of, they read it some where from a kook and they repeated it with no knowledge of there own.

I know what you mean. Im a 3 blade guy myself, i used to shoot the Wensel woodsman but have gone to the Razorcap for ease of tunning and less labor intencive with sharpening. Leaves a very good blood trail too.

Two of my pals have Habu recurves. Mostly zebra wood. Beautiful and made to be bomb proof. King, where'd you shoot that beast?

Jesse, don't worry, we are equal opportunity bow hunters! Cams or no cams, we'll be having fun.
