we're all sittin' on the edge of our seats....where's the story~?!! And I must add, judging by the photo it must have been a quality experience regardless of the hunt's outcome~!

OK, I'd drag it out some more, but I gotta get to work.

The whole story

Home again home again
Jiggity Jog
I went down to Chopper's
but didn't get a hog.

Was not lack of trying
we all worked real hard
But when we were on the ridges
pigs were in his yard!

Arrowslinger shot one
Almost in the butt
but with the help of a dog
She was soon hanging up.

Others had encounters
of the porcine kind
but the danged pigs stayed clear
like reading our minds.

I combed the creek bottoms
and climbed to the peaks
But it came pretty clear
I'm not much of a sneak.

Busted three times
in the space of a day
By stench or by noise
or just bad feng shui.

And when Sunday night fell
in the cooler there hung
not 18 or 9
but just lonely one.

The ranch is a beauty
and well managed too.
With turkeys and quail
and varmints to boot.

And some pigs they are there
no doubt in my mind
But I'll have to get one
some other time.

Yea, I heard when they are wounded they run up your pants leg, clamp on and don't let go till one of you expire

Looks like the ranch was a beauty. There is no such thing as a bad day of hunting especially with good friends. Better luck next time and Loved the suspense of the story. The poem was worth the wait.

in before the others do...gotta defend myself ya know. First of all the property is one of the most scenic & critter filled places i've ever hunted. I stalked within bow range of 4 nice bucks in velvet, turkeys, and tried to put the move on a pair of yotes....but foget them, i'm hunting pigs.
Back to the action--Chopper sent me to a spot where he's seen them pretty regular lately. I was sittin' there maybe 15 minutes when i heard grunting 50 yards away, figured this was going to be easy. They're gettin' out of bed, i'm right next to a trail, the winds good, hell...this is easy. But they just kept gruntin' evey 10 mintues of so, i could see the thicket move occasionaly, but then it sounded like they just fed out of sight. Next thing i see a big brown/reddish hog come out 60 yards ahead of me with 4 smaller ones in tow, they're all feddin' my way closing the distance when the one in the back squeals and they all spook. Now 5 pigs running is pretty damn excited especially when they're comin right for ya, the lead pig (the big red one) started to veer to my right. I was at full draw and had my pin just around her front shoulder, but as i was swinging right she started to hit the thicket. Anyway, pulled the trigger and thump.....stuck her and she squealed pretty hard, but it looked like my arrow was a bit far back and stickin' out 12". I shoot carbon & 60#, so i figured if i hit her bad it should have passed thru...i was hoping that i hit her outside left leg and that's why it didn't pass thru.
Got down and looked around, but only found my broken arrow and three drops of blood. Started looking around a bit & heard a nose behind me, grabbed my bow and took a couple steps......a big black boar with nice cutters was 35 yards away, now i'm not one to be greedy with one shot and another op..but figured i have to try, moved closer and ended up spookin' him.
The blood trail was real bad & i figured i gut shot 'er, so decided to wait til morning to get on it. Hunted a bit that morning then chopper showed up with a dog or two, as i was picking my was thru the thicket on the right track, the dog swung around the brush and found the pig 70 yards down the trail...we would have found 'er, but dolly made it a bit easier. Now i don't recomed shooting animals in the rear legs and i sure didn't do it on purpose...but it worked!
Pretty excited for my first pig, she weighed in at 135# field dressed & had some small cutters...but the tenderloin was amazing.
The JHO'ers are some REAL hunters and i learned plenty from 'em, glad i made the trip & a big thanks to Chopper for all his help & for running a great guide service.....I'll be back for that big boar i saw.

Mike, they don't call 'em "Ground Grizzlies" for nothing!

Man, when I drew back he bared his fangs and growled at me. Then he started to charge, but must've got confused because he ran the wrong way. Led him a touch and pinned him to a stump. Glad I pinned him solid, too, 'cause he was ripping and snorting... pig-biting mad! I had another arrow nocked, and was starting to wish I'd brought the Thunder .50BMG pistol for backup!

Hey, A.S.
<

Good post, and congrats again on bringing home the bacon. It's hard to argue with success, no?

By the way, guys, I wish I'd thought to take a photo of A.S.'s hunting vehicle. Talk about mud-slinging, rockclimbing, dirt digging raw power...

Ya'll should ask him about it sometime.

Arrowslinger: Nice write up and congrats on the hog.
<

I had a awesome time even though no hogs had my arrows in them. I had a stalk on a really nice boar (about 200lb) and a sow. It was a bad wind when I spotted them and I tried to work around for a better wind direction but by the time I got to about 60 yards they had picked up a wiff and were trotting back into the thicket. I busted about 5 or 6 while working a ridge and only saw a few glimpses of black tearing off in all directions so no shot there.

Saw over 30 deer when it was all added up although I suspect it was only about 10-12 different deer that I kept seeing. A couple of soon to be dandy bucks too. I came to full draw on a couple of yotes and decided to pass on a 50yard shot at the one in the back. And talk about a pile of turkeys !!!!!

It is an awesome ranch, has tons of game and I had a ball. It was great seeing some JHO'ers that I have hunted with in the past and meeting 3 new members. All in all a great weekend except a little too warm for my liking, but what can you do.

Here are a couple of shots. First 2 are different ranch shots and the last one is 2 bucks that I kept seeing.

I stalked two big'uns for about an hour on Saturday morning. They never saw me or winded me, but they got into the thick stuff before I could get a shot. When the young bull that was hanging around started snorting, I cleared out. It is an amazing place. Arrowslinger is right, there are a ton of critters there. The cabin is really cool. There are hot showers and real beds. Let's do it again soon guys!
