Clark and Monroe Counties Form Pair of QF Chapters in Missouri
Thursday, April 8, 2010
Paris, Missouri - Missouri has become ground zero for quail conservation, and it continues with the formation of two new Quail Forever chapters in Clark and Monroe Counties. Missouri leads the nation with 18 Quail Forever chapters and 1,300 Quail Forever members.
Quail conservationists from all over the country continue to rally around Quail Forever's local chapter model. Unlike other national conservation organizations, Quail Forever gives local Quail Forever chapters the ability to decide how 100 percent of their fundraised dollars are spent. This local control gives chapters and members the ability to make things happen for wildlife in their communities, while belonging to a national organization that gives wildlife and conservation a voice in Washington, D.C. Already, 17 chapters in eight states have formed in 2010. Nationwide, there are now 117 Quail Forever chapters.
Clark County Quail Forever
The northeastern most county in Missouri is home to Clark County Quail Forever. The chapter is focused on improving habitat for bobwhite quail and cultivating the next generation of quail hunters and quail conservationists. Clark County has habitat very conducive to growing quail populations. "The potential to work with farmers in the community is unlimited. Farmers in this area hold the key to bringing back quail numbers," says Elsa Gallagher, regional wildlife biologist for Quail Forever. The Clark County area has had high numbers of quail in the past, and with just a little work, the area can be a stronghold for quail in Missouri."
* Chapter leaders include president Rickie Davis, vice president Timothy Bertram and habitat chairperson Andy Hargrove from Kahoka and treasurer Mandy Shores from Luray.
* Clark County Quail Forever will hold its first annual fundraising banquet on Saturday, April 10th at the Clark County Fairgrounds in the Community Hall - doors open at 5PM.

Mark Twain Quail Forever
Residing in an area where a famous American author made his home, the Mark Twain Quail Forever chapter in Monroe County has set their sights on establishing quail habitat and providing outdoor opportunities for community youth. "This chapter will achieve milestones in both wildlife habitat work and community service," said Verle Hugenot, president of Mark Twain Quail Forever. "Our work with local schools, youth programs and the Missouri Department of Conservation will support wildlife habitat and provide valuable opportunities for future conservationists; it is a very rewarding experience to say the least." The chapter will provide habitat assistance by planting food plots, creating buffer strips and performing controlled burns on both private and public lands.
* Chapter leaders from Paris, Missouri, include: treasurer Mac Wilt, habitat chair Jamie Ebbesmeyer, youth/education chair Eugene Durbin and secretary David Sutliff.
* The Mark Twain chapter will be having its first banquet fundraiser on October 2, 2010, at the Community Center in Madison, Missouri.
