I was wondering if there is anyone out there that has a good way to clean antlers. I have a set of moose antlers that are pretty old and have some green color to them. I want to try and clean them as much as possible and might try to stain them. Any ideas?

The green color is a fungus that lives on damp material. If it's not real bad just put them out in the sun in a dry enviroment for a few days then steel wool off. If it's worse than that kill it with a fungaside. Clorox will work but dilute it and don't leave it on too long as it can soften bone. Next fill any cracks they have. There are a lot of products for this but if they aren't too severe just fill them with drywall mud then sand off excess then seal with clear. To recolor them you will need to paint them with a spray on flat ivory color. After that is cured start applying a dark walnut stain. I use MinWax water based stains for all my restoration as it dries fast and it's a little flatter than oils. Like they say, Wipe on, Wipe off. Keep doing this until you have the color you want. You can steel wool the tine tips to make them a lighter ivory color. Finish by sealing with Krylon Matt finish clear.
