Has anyone ever been down in the SD area for some boars??
Im thinking of heading down there for some a weekend pig hunt, and was wondering if anyone has seen any?
San Diego never had to many pigs.I think they let about 30 loose and pretty much hunted them out. There's quite a few coyotes and bobcats you could hunt.
Do your research, there have been several articles written on the hogs in the SD area. There use to be very few hogs in the SD area, however the was release of Russian boars from an Indian Reservation that managed to take hold, and is now continuing to build in population. However, the population is still at low numbers, making them very difficult to successfully hunt. The odds are that you'll wear out a couple of pairs of boots before connecting. The terrain is exceptionally rugged, you need to get into the back country; meaning backpack in and stay a couple of nights. The bottom line is that you would be better off booking a guided hunt with a good guide a bit farther north.
What everyone says. I live about 30 minutes from CNF and have been following the spread of hogs for a few years. 300 hogs is a pretty good estimate and, brother, they're spread across a wide area.
I won't even try and hunt them for another, say, five years. Just not worth killing yourself until the population gets MUCH bigger. FHL is probably a better bet.
