Hunted Knoxville Wildlife Area today. The hunting was good, but the shooting was not so hot. I carried my 20 guage and my friend carried a 12 guage with a barrel for slugs in case we found pigs. Got to the area a little late to try and break my class mate into quail hunting. We got to the area a little late, around 0730. On the drive up from Vallejo, we saw dozens of coveys of quail , quite a few deer and a flock of turkeys on the shoulder of the road.

We walked this area in Knoxvolle I new had quail and within 15 minutes, busted a covey in some thick stuff that it was impossible to even think about drawing a bead on the birds. I walked up to where I saw them go down hoping to bust them towards my buddy, but they decided to go the other direction, so I had the opportunity when two busted and took them down. Good start of the morning, for me anyway. That was it for that area. The rest of the quail in that covey are now in Tahoe.

After that area, we went to another area a couple miles back and did not hear or see another quail. We crossed a ridge and heard the squeal and grunting of pigs. We had the wind in our favor and tried to keep cover inbetween us and where the pigs I suspected to be. While putting the sneek on the hogs, and my buddy was switching barrels for the slugs, two does spooked and went straight to where the hogs were and spooked them too. There goes the sneak. Oh well, next time. On the walk back to the truck, we saw a LOT of Turkey sign with fresh tracks and scat along the road near water. Turkey hunters may want to check out the Southwest corner of the Knoxville area.

I took us to another area later where I thought there would be quail, and didn't find a bird of the right kind. My friend did manage to take a big grey tree squirrel, so he managed to get something to weigh down his bag.

We had fun just being out in the woods with a reason to carry firearms in California. Getting critters in the bag wasn't that important, but man it would've been nice to get one of those pigs. Oh well, next time. Next week I plan of going over to Cache Creek for the first time to look for quail and bunnies. My friend is dying to get his first pig, so I'll see what kind of signs I can find. We (or at least I)will be going to Vandenberg AFB later on in search or pork during Christmas break since it is closer to my real "home". See ya'll later

Where do you go in at? I just checked my poor quality map again and finally figured out that it is up above the area I hang out at(buck island and lower). Don't know how much longer the access at the low water bridge will be available this year(seasonal closures for flooding concerns). PM me if you want. I will appreciate any information you would be willing to share. Thanks
