Hi guys, a little help please. Before my son, daughter graduate from high school, or loses interest in deer hunting, id love to have a father son, daughter trip to CO for deer and elk. Kind of a bucket list thing for me, but we love to hunt, and id love them to be able to hunt together with me for an opportunity at being successful. The CO DOW is a very helpful website, and they are sending me their regs, etc. I havent received the package yet, but I have a couple questions if you can help? What are the cutoff dates for big game apps? Do they run a preference pt system? Is the purchase of a license required to put in an application for big game? Thats all, Id appreciate any feedback, and if theres any chance at all for me to return the favor I greatly appreciate it! Thanks, Steve

Last year the cut-off was 5 April so it should be around the same time this year. It is a preference point state and you do have to pay the tag fee upfront but it will be refunded if unsuccessful. Everything they are going to send you in that packet is available online on their website by the way. They also have the OTC elk hunt, plenty of elk to be had......but it's a blaze orange zoo.

If want a good hunt the ranching for wildlife is a great way to go not cheap but if you can fork up the $ it's a much better way to go. one of the good things about it is you can hunt with a gun ,muz, arch. in arch season. check out (cross mountain ranch) they are in sum of the best areas of Colorado. If not the draw our over the counter are good to just takes time to figure it out .good luck

I put in for a point for deer this year. My intent is to try and apply this fall (maybe) for a deer tag in Unit 62. I was told I would have a 50/50 chance at drawing with one point. Then I would just pick up and OTC elk tag for that unit, and do a combo hunt in second season (Mid-October). So, you don't need many points, depending on what unit you put in for.
