Nice bull!

How far did he run with the arrow?

I'm thinking about archery elk hunting next year, and still trying to get a good idea of what I'll be dealing with.

Awesome bull. Congrats. That's a great accomplishment with a bow. My dad & brother are heading out there for the Oct either-sex draw 1st rifle hunt. I hope that both of them can get nice elk. You'll have some great meat for the freezer now. Congrats again.

Thanks guys, I called the bull in with cow calls, there were a couple of cows that came in first, my buddy didn't want to shoot a cow, I would have but they were not on my side or shootable from where I was. Two bulls were bugling and this one snuck in to my left and uphill, I tried to stop himbut he kept coming, I shot at 25 yards slightly quartered to me, the arrow caught the on side shoulder and passed through the ribs opposite. I cow called and he slowed and fell 30 yards away. The other bull kept bugling so I bugled and raked a tree, he then chased a cow right to us, they walked right beside the dead bull, my buddy didn't have a clean shot and passed a P&Y bull. It was an awesome morning! I shoot a CSS Swampmaster at 60# with gam, etracker carbon express arrows and exp 100 expandable broadheads.

Nice bull Wapiti!! That's awesome that you got him with your bow! I am going on my first elk hunt in Colorado this year, but unfortunately I am going with my rifle. I am going for the second season, my buddy has a spot he hunts on public land, he is 5 for 7 years now. I have to drive from Pennsylvania blindfolded (ha ha, he doesn't take many people to his "secret" spot), so I feel quite fortunate to have gotten the invite from him!

Nice Bull Wapiti! Indeed.
That must take great dicipline and patience to wait for the right shot being that close to such a beast. Way to go.

h2obobh2o - i remember you talked about this elk hunting trip last year. I wish you well but i still can't believe your gonna drive. I flew Southwest airlines out of Baltimore for the second hunt last year and the cost was $80 total round trip!!! Of course it was only a little more than a month after 9/11 so the plane was empty.
Actually i don't blame you for driving, flying still makes me very nervous. Good Luck!
