Its a little late. I am new to the thread. This is a Coastal Roosevelt Bull I killed in September with my bow, with an over the counter tag. Just got him scored and it scored out at 286. My biggest to date.
Good guess, but he was taken closer to the California border. It is an awsome story. In short though we were walking through a clearing and he spotted us from about 150 yards away. He was on a ridge looking down on us. My heart about stopped. Thinking it was over. But then he just started walking right at us. He kept coming, walked behind 2 root wads which let knock an arrow and draw my bow. He stopped at 35 yards away, then moved his back legs, to give me a perfect broadside shot. I can't explain it. It was awsome, my dad was right behind me range finding as the bull made his way down the hill. His last words were "35 yards DON'T MISS."
exceptional bull. Cards, roosies do get some dark antlers. Just depends on what they are rubbing on.
dwikkles, OTC tags are for anyone for archery deer or elk. They have been cutting back on where you can go and what you can take with those tags, but you can still get one.
Yes there are numerous units you can hunt over the counter tags. That bull was rolling in the mud. He is still dark horned but a lot of the darkness is mud. I left it on there though. It gives it a more natural look. I just got him scored he scored 286 1/4. Minimum score for P&Y is 220 so he is good in my book. We have a couple hot spots, with elk its all about getting away from the pressure, and walking a lot in Oregon. Thanks everyone for the comments. He is a very beautiful animal.
