Kandace and I had hunted this particular "Very Dry" spot many times over the last year and never even had a chance for a shot. This particular area has been very frustrating to us as we would hike the area and find plenty of sign, but no pigs. We knew they were there, but we decided we needed to change tactics if we were to have any luck.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com

We decided that we would wait for a few days of heavy rain, then get back in the area and sleep in a tent.

That day was last week, Before first light, we awoke to the thickest Fog I have seen in some time, You could see no more than 30 yards using a scope. I thought our plan was a "bust" but after all the effort so far, we grabbed our guns and headed out into the canyon, climbing one ridge after another.

After walking about 30 minutes, Kandace was hot and needed to take off her jacket, We stopped on a ridge near heavy cover where she then handed me her rifle and proceeded to remove her jacket.

It was not ten seconds later she thought she heard a pig "oink" and grabbed her rifle from my shoulder. I did not hear anything, but I got ready anyway and pointed my rifle into the thick fog. "Like something out of a movie" Several pigs walked out of the fog right toward us and they had no idea we were there!
We dropped 2 pigs at less than 25 yards! Both turned out to be Boars.

After at least 10 hunts in this dry canyon with zero luck, everything changed
over-night due to rain, fog and yes A LOT OF LUCK !!

Congratulations!!! Brilliant planning and timing............the hogs are plain ugly, but to me the uglier the hogs, the more awesomely beautiful the hogs look like. The one on the tailgate looks like it will be between 250 to 300 lbs. Awesome.
Thanks for the story and the pictures. Smart looking lady by the way.

Awesome story! A few years back i hunted a really thick fog in Williams CA and was following the sounds of pigs for a while. suddenly, just like you described, they appeared out of no where about 45 yards away... pretty cool stuff. glad you were able to capitolize on the situation. CONGRATS!

foggy mornings are the best...allows you to sneak right up on them... they cant see you climbing up and it keeps your sent down... plus they tend to stay more active before bedding down in foggy weather...
