Hey all,
This next fall I'm going on a no guided, non-res elk hunting trip to Colorado. This will be a bow hunt mind you!!! Going to I have a few questions for you.

What would be a good location for this hunt?

During the rut, what is the best way to get a good close shot with a bow(stalk, call)???

When will the Colorado season dates and deadlines take place?

And finally, are the archery tags over the counter??

Thanks in advance

Duckaholic,

I'm a relative newbie to elk hunting, but after this year I'm totally hooked on CO.

I can't really give you definitive answers to most of your questions, but I can provide this link to CO Department of Wildlife. You can find all you ever wanted to know about rules and regs.

Good hunting!

If you could draw a tag for GMU 4 I would think that would be a really good hunt for a Bull (not trophy Bull). I Grouse hunt that area which is the same time as archery season and I see a butt-load of Elk up on Black Mtn. Also Calif & Slater Park just to the east of there has a lot of Elk.

Archery is limited in that area so you need to apply by the 1st of April

P.S. Archery tags are either-sex so that helps increase your odds of getting somthing
