The area you're talking about is San Luis Wildlife Area.
It's about 650 acres IIRC.
Pigs are there sometimes.
Mostly they bail out to the the state park across the street before sunrise.
Spend two or three days there and you can cover the whole place.
I've never seen any predictable use of one draw or hill by pigs in the place.

Be aware, archery & shotgun with approved non-lead slug only.
No rifles, handguns or muzzle loaders allowed.

I've been thinking about a trip tomorrow & maybe Sat. morning, we'll see.

San Louis is open all year long...archery and shotgun only....the only place there where I've seen and taken pigs is on the draws off the mid road going towards the boat launch ramp. It's not that big and the part about the pigs coming down from the state park side is pretty much the case. Just find one of the pull-overs by the side of the road and hike the road or drop down beolow the road closer to the lake bottom. It's really hit and miss. The place gets better towards the summer months when the pigs have to come to the lake to water up. Good luck. There's also a nice elk herd out there. Good luck

so it's just Cotton Wood that is closed now, but the lake side, San Luis Reservoir Wildlife Area is year round?

I went in this morning before sunrise.
Setup where I could glass the entire south side as well as the east face of the western ridge line.

I stayed in the same spot till 8:00.
No pigs, no turkeys, no coyotes either.

Saw half a dozen deer scattered about.
High point of the morning was watching 6 Tule elk cross the valley & walk within 75 yards.
Then on the way out I found where they were headed.
They joined up with the rest of the herd.
22 elk in all.

Maybe see pigs next time, probably not.
Sure beats a day at work though.

Where would one find out the open/closed status of these wildlife areas? I searched the DFG website and cannot find anything about Cottonwood Creek.

I lost my job last week so in between searching the job boards, I wanted to find a local area to hunt for some pigs.

Thanks Jean. I must have been tiered last night because I didn't see that phone number. I just called and confirmed that Cottonwood Creek WA is closed due the fawning season. It will open again with the archery deer season, closes after archery season until rifle season, then is open until the end of January.
