I was up there two weeks ago before the rains hit and there was a good amount of acorns still on the ground with some old rooting here and there. Also saw a few Does and not much else so figure. I been itching to go back out there but my GPS took a dump and now I am sol. Best of luck out there and let us know if there is any luck after this rain.

Realistically know can know when was the last time pig were taken, sure there is a log book at the check in station but can one garruanty every one signs it leaving noting that they harvest anything or not.

The last time I was there, one of the card read 25 pigs taken and 4 hours spent on the place.

015.jpg 017.jpg 022.jpg 019.jpg 026.jpg The place is very nice to hunt this time of year. But the walk is tough heres some pictures were we were at it took us 2 hours to get 2 the back i seen 1 doe. some one shot a hog we seen the gut pile. and my gps shows were we were at. at one time. One heck of a hike we decided to come back what looked to be the easy way out through the bottom. Man we found out there was no easy way out. These mountains are tough going on a person. The hogs are there we seen all the tracks way towerds the back of the property. Well time to recuperate. All in all it was better than being at home seeing hunting shows.lol.

We used the parking lot to go in. We got there about shooting time and there was about 4 other cars parked there so these people new the area and were there at sun up.It was 2 hours of hiking in from the parking lot. About the gps its a Oregon 450 Garmin but i bought the california chip for it. cabelas sells it. it cost $100 and the chip fits garmin units that are capable of the chip. Its well worth the money i found lots of blm land here in cali. already with it.

I wonder if it was live2hunt quartering the hog, like he normally does out there.

You can use a map and a compass :) Or get a GPS app for your smartphone.

Hi all, newbie here. I hunt this area a bit. YES it is a tough area to hunt! Well actualy to get around. Steep steep hikes as previously mentioned. I came close to harvesting a pig there about two years ago but when I put the cross hairs on her I saw movement and counted three piglets with her. Couldn't do it and let them go on. This was in the main canyon beyond the first steep climb. I'm planning on heading up first week Jan and final trip will be some time within the last week before they close. I was waiting on a little more rain to get the pigs moving around. Was last there the final week of Zone A deer season.

This photo was from my last trip there in the same canyon I mentioned. I know its a bit fuzy but how many deer can you see in the middle of the photo? All does with a fawn. That same day I found a forkie buck, but he was just outside the fence line, I'm talking about 5yds into private property. watched him for about half an hour as he casualy walked deeper into private land and lost sight of him. Closest I've come to my first buck.

And this is way back in there looking into the same canyon about 1/2 mile away. I was on my way out, right about the same time I found that buck. My advice, take lots of fluids, lots of breaks, but get in there deep and take your time and be patient. Sit and glass, you'll see game. I'll post next time I'm heading out if anyone wants to hook up.
Fredo...
