Thanks guys. Ya......Bigtusker, Cottonwwod near Pacheco Pass. Orso- Here is the short version. Opening of A-Zone we were drawn for Cottonwwod. Hiked in real early Sat morning. After a couple hours of glassing I moved down the ridge further from my partners. Sat down under an oak tree to spend the day glassing. About 1/2 hour later I hear a pig squeal. Jumped up to look down below into the canyon. Nothing.? Then I noticed a group of 15 hogs coming over the next ridge. Dropped to a knee and picked out a large pig on the outside of the group. BOOM ------ WHACK ! The pig I was on, was now laying with all fours in the air. The rest of them turned tail and ran back over where they had come from. About a 220 yd. shot with my .270. Hit'em 3" behind the ear. DOA. Boar = 200lb. We regrouped and drug the pig for about 2 hours before F & G helped us back to our truck. Picked up my meat last week and got 110lbs cut & wrap plus 20lb. link italian sausage.......................Erich.

Where did you process your meat, Hilmar?

How much did you pay? I use to use Wlfsens in Gustine, but they don't do wild game anymore. I use to pay 70 buck for a cut and wrap and sausage

Bubba>>Hilmar does a good job for $50/animal (pig or deer)...that includes all the ground you want...you just have to spice up your own ground is all.

I hunted there ALOT. Pulled one pig out of there, and one from the other side of the road.

Seen a nice hog way in the back of the place during deer season. Let it go because I did not feal like dradding it out of there.

Hntrjohn..........Ya the drag out is a tuff one. Lucky it was cool this year. Last year it was in the mid-90's by 10am. Fog had just burned off when I popped him. Temp was in the mid-60's with a stiff westerly blowing......................E.

Well this isn't looking good. I've cooked two different cuts from the pig I got and both have been terrible

. Sausage had a bad taste and the ham was "Yuk". I'm marinating some steaks for Friday, hope they turn out better.

Outdoorsman,
Congrats on the excellent public land harvest you made. Certainly was good fortune & good shooting.
So far, all the piggies I & my buddy have harvested cooked well & were delicious eating. Must be something about the processing of your meat for the flat taste or unpalatable flavor. Hope your steaks turn out OK.
God Bless. larrysogla.

put liberal dose of Lawry's Lemon Pepper. if it still did not work out fine, boil with ginger and dash of brown sugar (remove those nasty bubbles while it boiling). afterwards, soak overnight in Lawry's Ducks Unlimited Marinades.

lastly, count your blessings that you did well at cottonwood. have tried that area and there seems to be lots of idiots and inconsiderate hunters (hate to use this venerable word about them) out there. 3 folks, one with a 5 to 8 year old kid (bad role model), started target shooting at 8:30am despite a bold-lettered leaflet prohibiting target shooting (illiterate bastards!). To top their stupid acts, they left the area with lots of spent casings and an empty plastic water bottle.
