Hey everyone, I am a new duck hunter here in California. I have gone 5 times and have brought home 11 ducks so I think my first season has been a success. The biggest success was somewhat figuring out the Kern and Mendota refuge lottery, reservation and sweatline situations.

One question I do have is how do you guys achieve good cover in the tule while in the free roam areas without a blind? I have yet to hunt out of a blind and really enjoy hunting the free roam areas but feel I have been a bit inconsistent with my cover.

When entering the tule for your blind, do you go straight in and tuck behind? Do you start from another point and snake into your spot so you keep the tule in front of your spread standing upright?

Thanks for all your help!

I always come in from the side and leave as much tules standing around me. I pick a spot away from me for my pack and stuff.

I go straight in maybe 8 feet, then cut over 90 degrees another 8 or 10 feet. I then go back and pull the tules over to cover the path in.
