The way I see it anymore is that bull or cow, it's all the same. They are usually herded up and the skill level is no different to take a bull over a cow. Getting in range of the herd takes the work, the shot is the same regardless of sex. Yearling cow is choice meat.

I have harvested two elk here in cali one with bow and rifle, they both were cows. If I draw an either sex tag I will shoot the 1st mature animal that will present the best shot opportunity. The meat is awsome.
