Brain,

I have hunted the Utah cow Elk hunts a couple of times over the last 3 or 4 years.  The proclamation comes out around the begining of June, apps need to be in by around the end of June, results come out early to mid Aug. I think around the 10th.  Then there is a second draw for left over tags.  All the cow hunts are late in the year, after deer season, Nov - Jan.   I have hunted both deer and Cow's in Panguitch.  I usually put in for that area every year.  If I remember correctly the odds are about 25 - 30 %, not one of the easier tags to draw.  Are you familier with that area?  Well hope this has been helpful.

DanD I am familiar with the area. I have been rifle deer hunting there when I can get drawn and every year prior to the draw since 1990. Originaly I was hoping that I could take a doe during the rifle buck season but in my other post I was told its a diferent season entirely. I supose this makes sense they don't want people operating on the if its brown its down theory. I read the proclamation and saw when the draw will be but it never referenced what time of year the season is. Do they have a separate doe and cow archery or rifle season. Or is it any weapon and one season. The idea came about last season when I got skunked with bucks and there were doe close enough to hit with a paper air plane. Thanks for the info.

Paulc the dow/cow proclamation does not come out until the end of May/ early June and the apps are due about a month later, so your still ok for this year.

Utah seems to do the Buck and Bull draws first, then after you have those results, they do the drawing for the antlerless hunts.

Brain, I have never put in for a dow tag, but the cow hunts (excluding private property) are from Nov. - Jan. some are all 3 months, while other's are just a few weeks.  I think the dow tags are also during that same time frame, but again I've never applyed so I might be mistaken.  I also do not recall any archery only antlerless hunts avaliable, I think all the tags are any weapon.  I do know that Utah for the most part, does not really seem to over lap their seasons like Colorado does, where you can hunt deer and elk at the same time.  Now this might not be the case for all the antlerless hunts, but last year when I put in for my cow tag I did look and see if there was any dow tags avalable for the same area at the same time and there was not.  Hope this has been some what helpful.
